The Way of Mental Fitness

Center True Mindfulness begins with the Breath

The breath is the bridge between the mind and the body. A healthy balance in the Autonomic Nervous System is indicative of good health. Breathing Light-Slow-Deep will help maintain the balance between the parasympathetic and sympathetic.  Improving both mental and physical resilience, which work together and are always striving to meet our changing needs and maintain homeostasis – a body in balance.

Mindful Breathing – Calm your Mind and your Body

The Way of Mental-Fitness can be affected if any of the other 3 pillars are compromised. Healthy breathing is through the nose, using the diaphragm and a natural pause after the exhale. Mouth breathing, fast breathing will agitate the mind.

Mindful breathing exercises help to bring awareness to the mind-body connection and create relaxation and energy. Breath-focused work can be done anywhere, anytime, allowing yourself to be mindful, or present, during the act of breathing. We live our entire life in our mind – make sure to train it on a regular basis. Training our mind is the most important priority in life. That’s the power of the breath.

Center True Mindfulness – Approach Overview

The breath is the core element of all mindfulness practice. We use 4 different mindful-centered breathing exercises to reduce your breathing down to 4 to 6 breaths per minute.

Your breath, mind and body are directly connected. Mindful breathing is paying attention to the sensation of the breath coming in and out of the body in a way that promotes relaxation. This means noticing the breath, how and where you feel it in the body without trying to change it. The way you breathe is the FIRST place, not the last that one should address with any signs of anxiety or chronic stress.

In the Way of Breathing, we referenced hyperventilation syndrome, Breathing Pattern Disorder/BPD that causes too great of a loss of CO2/carbon dioxide. Overbreathing reduces the delivery of oxygen to the brain. An oxygen deprived mind is more excitable and agitated. We need to think of mindful breathing as a brain gym. It is literally training your mind to be in the present moment by focusing on your centered true point.
